Remembrance Day
I WENT TO SEE THE SOLDIERS
I went to see the soldiers, row on row on row,
And wondered about each so still, their badges all on show.
What brought them here, what life before
Was like for each of them?
What made them angry, laugh, or cry,
These soldiers, boys and men.
Some so young, some older still, a bond more close than brothers
These men have earned and shared a love, that's not like any others
They trained as one, they fought as one
They shared their last together
That bond endures, that love is true
And will be, now and ever.
I could not know, how could I guess, what choices each had made,
Of how they came to soldiering, what part each one had played?
But here they are and here they'll stay,
Each one silent and in place,
Their headstones line up row on row
They guard this hallowed place.

Financial stocks lead North American indices lower
October 26, 2007
Financial stocks drove North American equity markets lower this week as credit-market losses stemming from the slumping U.S. housing market continued to mount.
Wachovia Corp., the fourth largest bank in the United States, this week reported a 10 per cent decline in third-quarter earnings. The bank blamed the recent disruption in global credit markets for its disappointing results. At the same time, Merrill Lynch & Co. this week reported the biggest quarterly loss in the securities firm’s 93-year history. Merrill attributed its US$2.24 billion loss last quarter to credit market losses.
Figures compiled by Bloomberg show third-quarter profits have fallen an average of 25 per cent for financial companies in the S&P 500. The barometer’s Financial sector fell 2.8 per cent on the week, dragging the broad benchmark 1.7 per cent lower...
